Summary Defines both traditional and modern apologetics as "the science which has as its purpose to demonstrate the divine nature of Christianity and whose aim is the bring to life faith and hope." Considering the two main complementary aspects of apologetics, the negative and historical aspect which consists in rebutting hostile attacks and the positive modern aspect which emphasizes the proofs of the divinity of Christianity, the author underlines the attitude of the Church, which maintains that proofs be presented for all that which is, of its nature, provable, but holds that, at the same time, it is quite in the nature of things that much of that which "concerns God should lie beyond the scope of our minds, and for man's reason may be shrouded in obscurity."
